Aussie superstar and one of RCB’s shining lights of the 2021 IPL season Glenn Maxwell feels that the world will see a transformed version of former Indian captain Virat Kohli, who had also stepped down from his position as captain of RCB before the start of the UAE leg of the 2021 IPL.
“He knows he’s handing the captaincy over, which I think is potentially a big burden for him. It might have been something that’s been weighing him down for a while and now that he’s been able to release it, it might be dangerous news for opposition teams,”
Maxwell said on the RCB Podcast.
After the 33-year-old’s resignation, the franchised purchased Faf du Plessis in the IPL 2022 mega auction and have decided to make him the skipper of the Bengaluru franchise for the upcoming season.
The past couple of years have not been too good for Kohli’s outrageous standards, with him not being in the best of form with regards to his batting. He has not touched the three-figure mark in some time, and for someone who used to do so with such freakish consistency, there were those who feared that Virat might be past his prime. He also lost his position as captain of the ODI and Test sides after resigning as T20I captain, as a result of the BCCI’s one-captain policy.

However, Maxwell feels that the burden of responsibility had a huge impact on Kohli, and that the release of pressure would work wonders for him. He feels that the new free role will reveal a new dimension of Kohli, and has warned opponents of the carnage that he could cause once he settles in.
“Something I’ve noticed more from him this year is he’s been really measured with his emotions. He’s actually been really measured with his decision-making. He’s certainly really surprised me and probably how close we’ve both gotten to each other as well this year,”
the Australian concluded.
