Kerala Blasters have signed 20-year-old defender Hormipam Ruivah from Roundglass Punjab FC on a multi-year contract. The Tuskers are beginning to build towards the following season after a disappointing campaign saw them finish the 2020/21 Indian Super League in the 10th position.
20-year-old defender Hormipam Ruivah has signed for Kerala Blasters from Roundglass Punjab FC. The Manipur-born centre-back has signed a three-year contract with the Tuskers following his breakthrough season in Punjab.
Hormipam expressed his delight at signing for Kerala. The youngster revealed that he is eager to meet up with his new teammates and start training. Meanwhile, he singled out the club’s infamous fanbase and stated that he wants to do the best for them.
“I am excited to join and continue my football journey with Kerala Blasters FC,”
he said.
“I have heard a lot about their fan base and always wanted to be part of the team. I promise to strive harder and want to do the best for the Yellow Army in future. I am eagerly waiting to begin my training with the team.”
Karolis Skinkys, Kerala Blasters’ Sporting Director revealed his delight at signing the youngster. He pointed towards his ‘Man of the Match’ debut performance as a sign of things to come while reiterating that the 20-year-old could be a ‘mainstay’ in the Kerala defence for several years to come.
“I am happy to have a talented player like Hormipam join Kerala Blasters FC. “Being the ‘Man of the Match’ on his professional debut, I believe he will bring out some solid performances along with the support of everyone here at the club and especially the Yellow Army.”
Skinkys told the club’s official website.
Kerala Blasters have suffered from two forgetful seasons, back-to-back. The Blasters finished seventh in 2019/20, which led to them replacing head coach Eelco Schattorie with Kibu Vicuna. However, the latter himself was replaced midway through the subsequent season, with the team languishing in the bottom half of the table. They finished tenth in the league eventually, five points better than basement side Odisha.
