Inter vice-president and club legend Javier Zanetti has completed 25 years at Internazionale FC and feels a familial relationship with the club. Zanetti also admitted that he is overjoyed as the San Siro based club are playing their best football in some time as they aim to retain their Scudetto that they won under Antonio Conte last season.
Despite losing some key players, such as striker Romelu Lukaku, full-back Achraf Hakimi, and midfielder Cristian Eriksen, Inter have played excellent football under new head coach Simone Inzaghi, and his system has clearly produced results, with the Nerazzurri sitting pretty, two points off the top with two games in hand and just the solitary defeat in 19 games.
Argentine stalwart Zanetti had a chat with Serie A, as he completed a silver jubilee at the blue side of Milan, playing 615 games, before subsequently moving to the administrative side of things, and now currently operating in the capacity of vice-president. Zanetti discussed his illustrious career, a major part of which was spent at the San Siro.
“I arrived here 25 years ago to start a journey and I am proud to have been captain, just as I am proud to be vice-president of the club. Inter are family, they are a part of me”
Zanetti said when asked about his journey with Inter.
Inter won the Scudetto in the 2020/21 season after a brilliant season under Italian manager Antonio Conte, who left the club in the summer over some disagreements with the club’s decision to sell some players due to financial constraints, such as Lukaku and Hakimi.
There were many who felt that the club would suffer after the departure of some of the key figures at the club. However, that has not been the case this season as new coach Inzaghi has orchestrated some wonderful football, and Inter look destined to retain the Serie A title this season as well.
“The team plays great football and it’s the coach and lads who deserve credit for that. The team feels it is strong and has a remarkable mentality. The players know they have to defend the title that they earned last season.
Everyone feels involved and that is important for a side with big objectives like ours . We want to defend the title and we are showing it game after game. Milan, Napoli and Atalanta are close by and I think it’ll be like that to the end of the season.”
said the Inter vice-president.
