ISL winners Mumbai City FC have made their first move to secure the club’s long term future. As per reports, the Islanders have tied down duo Bipin Singh and Amey Ranawade to long-term agreements.
Singh scored six times for Mumbai City in the recently concluded ISL season. He also netted a stoppage-time winner in the final against ATK Mohun Bagan. His twelve goal contributions in regular and post-season also earned him a call-up to the national team. Singh was picked to play in the Oman friendly by head coach Igor Stimac and repaid his faith by registering the assist for Manvir Singh’s equalizer.
Other ISL clubs were reportedly becoming interested in the winger, but Mumbai City acted first to secure his long-term future.
The Islanders also concluded a deal to retain defender Amey Ranawade for the coming seasons. The 23-year-old was an essential part of Sergio Lobera’s team, as evidenced by his 16 starts out of 18. He will have competition in defence for the next season, with City securing the services of Rahul Bheke from Bengaluru FC.
The trio will be a part of the squad under Sergio Lobera for the 2021/22 ISL season. After three years at FC Goa, the Spanish head coach signed on for Mumbai City ahead of the 2020 season. He had previously won the Winners’ Shield and the Indian Super Cup with the Gaurs. The ex-Barcelona coach has now added to his trophy haul by winning the league and the shield with the Islanders.
As a reward for finishing first in the regular season, Mumbai City have also qualified for the 2022 AFC Champions League Group Stage.
