Inter Milan’s rampant form takes them another step closer towards defending their Serie A crown, whilst Roma and Juventus register crucial wins to keep themselves in contention for a Champions League spot. Udinese put 4 past Cagliari in their away trip, a win that took them closer to the top half of the table.
Inter Milan’s title defense is well and truly on with AC Milan and Napoli letting themselves off the hook, and the former treble winners managed to complete 100 goals in this calendar year with their 5-0 thrashing of Salernitana, which took their goal-scoring tally in the season to a whopping 48 in the league.
Hakan Calhanoglu, who made a move from one side of Milan to the other this summer, was at the heart of the contest throughout the game. He set it up for Ivan Perisic to open the account in next to no time, before Denzel Dumfries made it 2. Alexis Sanchez returned to goal-scoring duties after a long time, getting Inter’s third in the second half.
Lautaro Martinez and Roberto Gagliardini made it five before the end of the game, as Inter now established a clear 1-point lead against local rivals.
Tammy Abraham struck a brace against Atalanta, which saw Jose Mourinho’s men register an impressive 4-1 win at the Gewiss stadium. Abraham scored in the very first minute of the game, before Nicolo Zaniolo made it 2 around the half-hour mark. In the stoppage time of the first half, Roma conceded via Cristante’s own goal to make things interesting in the second half, but that wasn’t to be the case.
Cristante had a goal chalked out by VAR, but Chris Smalling immediately got the third to steer the side further clear. Abraham completed the formalities with a fourth, a win which saw them take the fifth spot temporarily, just five behind the top four slots.
Juventus had a tough outing against Bologna, but managed to edge them out with two crucial goals coming from Alvaro Morata and Juan Cuadrado. Morata scored in the sixth minute, lashing at a Bernardeschi cross first time. Cuadrado doubled the lead in the second half with a stunning strike from long range, which took a deflection and went in.
Juventus are currently on level terms with Roma on the table, with 31 points to their credit. Gerard Deulofeu starred for Udinese in their clash against Cagliari, as the visiting team thumped four goals past them to pick up three vital points. Makengo got the lead for Udinese in the 4th minute, before Deulofeu doubled it on the cusp of half-time. Molina’s long-range strike and Deulofeu’s second of the day made it four for the side, who currently sit 14th on the table.
