Tamil Thalaivas coach J Udayakumar is confident that the club won’t disappoint the fans in the upcoming edition of the Pro Kabaddi League.
The Tamil Thalaivas have struggled since their debut in the Pro Kabaddi League. The Chennai-based franchise has been a part of the tournament for the last three seasons and hasn’t found any success. After a disappointing end to their last few seasons, coach J Udayakumar stepped up to the media to talk about his team.
“We have picked young players after a lot of thought. We have trained the players and put in a lot of effort. We have also devised new plans, This team won’t disappoint the fans.”
While the coach seems confident of his team this season, the fans aren’t wrong, judging the squad’s performance and mentality. TT have only managed to get fifteen wins out of their 66 fixtures in the last three seasons.
The team lacks experience in their camp. Despite the addition of Rahul Chaudhary last season, they failed to secure any momentum and finished at the bottom of the table.
Led by Ajinkia Pawar, K Prapanjan, and Manjeet in the raiding unit, the Thalaivas fans will hope that their team performs better this season.
“It is a hard environment when you’re training and residing inside bubbles”
When asked about the impact of the pandemic on the performance the team had last season, Udayakumar said it was quite challenging for the side as most of them had not experienced anything as such.
“It is very difficult during the COVID time and for the players to be in bubbles. We try to make sure that the players remain motivated and enjoy themselves despite the hard times!”
After a disappointing finish at the bottom of the table in season 7, the fans will hope their team finishes at a better position this campaign.
The team’s skipper PO Surjeet Singh was excited about the upcoming season. He believes that his players are well-prepared and will put on a great performance in the new season, starting December 22.
Fans will hope that the captain and coach are accurate with their expectations this time around and will deliver to their expectations. It will be interesting to see if this young underdog side can come out strong and secure a place in the playoffs this season.
