Manchester City could be looking at an overhaul this summer, with some critical players rumoured to be leaving the club. Sergio Aguero has already confirmed his departure, and others could join too. As such, the Citizens are planning a big spending spree to revitalize the squad.
As per a Daily Mail report, Manchester City is planning a massive £200 million summer spending spree to pump new blood into the squad. The Manchester outfit is set to lose Sergio Aguero after the current season’s conclusion, while some reports claim that Fernandinho could leave too.
City, as a result, are looking to spend big and bring in some new players. Pep Guardiola’s team looks at two particular stars for a summer overhaul – Erling Haaland and Jack Grealish.
Haaland is among the most in-demand players across Europe at the moment. The Norwegian striker has an incredible record of scoring goals in the last few seasons with RB Salzburg and Borussia Dortmund. Signing the 20-year-old could potentially sort a team’s forward position for the next decade.
The report claims that Manchester City eye Haaland as a key target for the next season. The Norway international is being touted to replace the outgoing Sergio Aguero, who is confirmed to leave the club a decade since signing on. Aguero is currently City’s all-time top goalscorer and fourth in the all-time Premier League scoring charts.
Haaland has previous City ties. His father, Alf-Inge Haaland, played for the club between 2000 and 2003. The young striker is also set to face his potential employer in the coming weeks, with Dortmund playing City in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals.
City’s spending is not expected to stop at Haaland. The report claims that the club is weighing up a move for Aston Villa star Jack Grealish. The Englishman won’t come cheap. However, City’s interest is said to have accelerated in the past few weeks. The club is looking for a younger profile, especially with key players such as Kevin De Bruyne turning 30 soon.
Pep Guardiola’s men remain in the hunt for their fifth Premier League title. They are the runaway leaders in the league this season and could wrap up their third title in four years in the coming weeks.
