Former Argentine footballer and one of the greatest ever to play the beautiful game, Diego Maradona passed away due to a cardiac arrest in November 2020, shortly after a brain surgery. He was given a grandiose send off by the Footballing communities in Argentina, who came in massive numbers despite the existence of COVID-19.

Nearly a year after his death, new reports from an Argentine reporter Nelson Castro have revealed something astonishing. He said during a TV interview for the promotion of his book, that Maradona’s body was buried without his heart as there was a plot by a group of fans to steal the his heart.

“It never came to pass because it was an act of such enormous daring but it was detected that it was going to, so they extracted his heart, also for research,”

    Castro said.

He has written a book named “Diego’s Health”, which is set to cover the array of health problems, natural and self-inflicted, faced by man who died aged 60.

According to Castro, his heart weighed nearly half-a-kilo, which is heavier than normal. He stated that sportspersons usually have a heart heavier than the rest, with the average weight being around 300 grams. He spoke about his drugs consumption and the impact it had on his physical condition after quitting football.

He battled various health problems after he quit the game, a lot of which were caused by his addictions. In 2000, he had a near-death experience when he had heart failure due to an overdose of cocaine. It took many months of rehabilitation in Cuba for the man to get back on his feet, after which he took up managerial jobs.

The two Serie A titles Napoli won in its history have come during the time he was a part of the club and was their record goal-scorer until Dries Mertens took over.

Maradona scored over 350 goals in his professional career for clubs and country and made nearly 700 appearances at the competitive level.
