Jesse Lingard took to social media to tease a potential transfer to West Ham United. The England international could leave Manchester United in the coming weeks after talks with the club over a potential contract extension broke down.
The Manchester United midfielder teased a possible return to West Ham United via his Instagram, just hours after it came to light that talks between him and the club over a contract extension had broken down.
The 28-year-old is in the final six months of his contract and will be free to leave Manchester United in July 2022. In that case, the club could try to sell the Englishman for a cut-price fee in January to recoup a minor fee.
Sky Sports report that Lingard’s representatives are in acceptance of the fact that their client’s future lies away from Old Trafford. Talks between the 28-year-old and the club over a new deal have come to a standstill and a move away from Manchester United – either in January or six months later – is the most likely outcome at this point.
United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer played coy on Lingard’s contractual situation in his pre-match press conference, claiming that the Englishman remains an important part of his squad.
“I’m not in his contract talks but he gives energy to the group every day. He wants to play as much as possible, all the players do. He’s disappointed he’s not played more.
He’s done well when he’s played for us. He knows with all the games coming up, he’s going to play a part.”
the Norwegian said.
Despite Solskjaer’s assurances, Manchester United will now look to sell Lingard in the January transfer window, reports The Sun. The Red Devils decided against selling the attacker for a relatively large fee in the summer but could now be forced to sell him for just 10 million pounds or else risk losing him for nothing six months later. West Ham, for whom Lingard shone while on loan from January to June last season, are credited with an interest.
