Barcelona are expected to go after Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling in the winter transfer window despite their unclear financial situation. Meanwhile, reports have also added Thiago Alcantara to the shortlist of potential signings.
On November 6, Barcelona have appointed Xavi Hernandez as a new head coach. Their next target, naturally, is signing some players for the new boss. The Spanish giants have had their share of financial troubles this year, but those haven’t stopped them from bringing bodies in.
It has been reported for a while that Manchester City star Raheem Sterling is of interest to Barca. Sky Sports state that the Englishman is a legitimate target for the Blaugrana and that the feasibility of a move is currently being discussed among the club officials. Meanwhile, Sterling is understood to be open to a transfer abroad, the finer details of which are yet to be determined.
Another player who Barcelona are reported to be interested in is midfielder Thiago Alcantara. The Spaniard came through La Masia – the infamous Barcelona youth academy- and represented the first team for a short period, before moving to Bayern Munich. Thiago enjoyed a long, successful stay in Munich, following which he transferred to Liverpool – last season.
As per Mundo Deportivo, the Catalans are eyeing a loan move for Thiago, as they currently do not have the finances to complete a permanent deal. The report further states that the player is willing to return to Camp Nou, which he left in 2013 after being unable to dethrone either Xavi or Andres Iniesta.
Meanwhile, Barcelona did complete their first signing under Xavi by bringing in veteran Dani Alves on a short-term contract. The right-back, who enjoyed several successful seasons with Barcelona, will be allowed to play for the club from January and has a contract until June 30, 2022. The Brazilian has signed for the Blaugrana as a free agent following his departure from Sao Paulo in September.
