Tottenham Hotspur are said to have begun their search for Hugo Lloris’ replacements. The Frenchman is in his twilight years, and Spurs are hoping to secure a successor before too long.
Tottenham have earmarked ex-Arsenal player Emiliano Martinez as the top candidate to replace Lloris – when the time comes. The Frenchman has been a loyal servant to the club since joining them from Olympique Lyon in 2012, but now 34, has a few years remaining at the top level. S
purs have begun searching for his replacements, and despite signing Pierluigi Gollini in the summer, have devised a four-man shortest with Martinez at the top.
The Independent claims that Martinez is the top choice to replace Lloris, whose contract expires this summer. Martinez himself only moved to Villa from Spurs’ rivals Arsenal last season, and instantly became their number one between the sticks. Following several outstanding performances, he was called up to the Argentina national team, with whom he won the 2021 Copa America.
Martinez isn’t the only candidate on the list of Lloris replacements. Spurs are also eyeing West Bromwich Albion’s Sam Johnstone, who impressed in the Premier League last season despite the Baggies suffering relegation eventually.
Italy’s Alex Meret – who shares responsibilities with David Ospina in between the posts for Napoli – is also on the list, as is Real Sociedad custodian Alex Remiro.
From one end of the pitch to the other – Tottenham are also keen on Nantes star Randal Kolo Muani. Footmercato credits Spurs and Bayern Munich with interest in the Frenchman, who has quickly developed into one of the best young forwards in Ligue 1.
Muani scored nine times and assisted four in the league last season; he has already netted twice and assisted a further two times in ten games this term. Over the summer, the 22-year-old attracted interest from Bundesliga sides Borussia Monchengladbach and Eintracht Frankfurt, while Southampton were also said to be keen on his services.
