The 20th match of the 2022 Indian Premier League concluded with the Rajasthan Royals coming out on top by three runs against the Lucknow Super Giants in a thriller. Put into bat by the tournament newcomers, Royals were off to a decent start with Jos Buttler and Devdutt Padikkal adding 42 for the first wicket. However, wickets fell quick, and they were reduced to 64-3 in nine overs with all of Buttler, Padikkal, Sanju Samson and Rassie van der Dussen back in the pavilion. Five-time Indian Premier League champions Mumbai Indians’ baffling start to this season continued. Rohit Sharma’s side suffered fourth straight defeat, this time to the Royal Challengers Bangalore, who had an excellent game in almost all departments. Mumbai’s problems were further compounded with their batting order not firing on all cylinders just as yet, as well as their bowling, which was thoroughly underwhelming. The team had to rely on the dependable Suryakumar Yadav to rescue them and get them to a total of 151, but that was not going to be enough, with the bowling attack unable to pick up wickets. RCB left-handed opener Anuj…

The Sunrisers Hyderabad registered their first points of IPL 2022 with a comprehensive win over the defending champions Chennai Super Kings, who lost their fourth game on the trot, including their eight-wicket trouncing by SRH. It was an overall failure for Ravindra Jadeja’s men as they were miserable in all departments, a serious issue that needs to be addressed by the Yellow Army. The batting from the four-time champions was disappointing, to say the least, while the bowling was hapless, as Abhishek Sharma and Rahul Tripathi made short work of the modest target. Shubman Gill followed up his innings in the last game with yet another brilliant showing, scoring 96 in 59 deliveries to get his side very close to the finish line. Punjab were also quite good with the bat, but they will rue the fact that they lost far too many wickets while they were on top, which is…

KL Rahul’s Lucknow Super Giants wrapped up a comfortable victory against the Delhi Capitals after restricting Rishabh Pant’s side to under 150 despite an excellent start from opener Prithvi Shaw, who scored a wonderful half-century in the powerplay. Australian Test skipper Pat Cummins announced his arrival tremendously in IPL 2022, starring with ball, and especially with bat in hand, as he produced a remarkable high-impact knock to give the Kolkata Knight Riders an excellent win over the record title-holders Mumbai Indians, who have lost their third consecutive game of the season. Both sides struggled with the bat initially, as Mumbai posted 161 runs on the board after a horrific start. Tilak Verma and Suryakumar Yadav played excellent knocks before the veteran Kieron Pollard played a fine cameo towards the end. But all their efforts were for nought, as Cummins came in at a crucial juncture for…
