The defending Indian Premier League champions have a bigger fanbase than the entire viewing communities of several other less popular sports, according to a new survey by Ormax Media. The survey was conducted on the basis of age, gender, pop strata, and the states from which the subject belonged, among other aspects. Cricket has unsurprisingly emerged by far the most popular sport in India, with a fan base of 124.2 million people. Kabaddi, football, and wrestling, including tournaments held under the auspices of sports entertainment company WWE, all share the next spot, with fanbases anywhere between 23 and 28 million. Most parts of India have not historically…

MI and India’s all-format skipper recently became just the second Indian and seventh batsman overall to amass 10,000 runs in the history of T20 cricket. The six-time Indian Premier League champion reached the milestone in the Mumbai Indians’ recent Indian Premier League game against the Punjab Kings, which they ended up losing by 12 runs. Interestingly, Sharma was a mere 25 runs away from the huge milestone at the start of his innings against PBKS and reached the mark in no time, with a massive six off South African speedster Kagiso Rabada’s bowling. Nevertheless, he was dismissed off the very next ball. Credit: IPL…
The last over of the innings is very important for both batting and bowling teams as they are eager to finish on a high. The pressure is on the bowlers, who are looking to restrict the batters from playing the big shots. But nothing of that sort happened with Virandeep Singh of Malaysia Club XI as he picked up five wickets in the final over of an innings. The incident took place in the ongoing Nepal Pro Club Championship during Malaysia’s fixture against Push Sports Delhi. The former Royal Challengers Bangalore cricketer has signed a four-year contract and will also be the selector during this period. The 40-year-old had taken over from Justin Langer on an interim basis in February when CA had offered him a six-month contract only. Today was a glimpse into the future of Mumbai as Tilak Varma and Dewald Brevis, dubbed ‘Baby AB’ after AB de Villiers, clubbed Punjab Kings bowlers in an exciting partnership that raised their hopes for a brief while. However, with batting thin on paper, MI struggled to sustain the momentum in a run chase of 199 and eventually lost by 12 runs. Skipper Rohit Sharma had earlier kickstarted the run chase with some brilliant stroke play, but Kagiso Rabada sent him packing with a short ball soon after he was lofted inside out for a six. Delhi Capitals, who have had a mixed season in the IPL 2022 so far, will take on Royal Challengers Bangalore in the match no. 27 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday. DC are coming off a win while RCB had to face a defeat in their last fixture. Rishabh Pant’s side have played four matches in the season, winning two and losing as many with a net run-rate of 0.476. They won their first game against Mumbai Indians but lost the next two. In their last fixture, the Capitals toppled Kolkata Knight Riders by 44 runs at Brabourne Stadium. Prithvi Shaw hammered 51 off 29 while David Warner anchored the innings…
Things finally worked for the Yellow Army as Ravindra Jadeja’s Chennai Super Kings registered their first win under new skipper with a crucial victory against the Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai. CSK took full advantage of the fact that RCB were without their X-factor, Harshal Patel. Chennai walloped the RCB bowling line-up, with Shivam Dube and Robin Uthappa, both former Bangalore players themselves, getting very close to centuries. The bowling was mediocre for both sides, with the exception of Maheesh Theekshana for the Super Kings, who turned things in his side’s favour with a magnificent four-wicket haul to…
England limited-overs skipper Eoin Morgan has come out and expressed his thoughts on the ECBS’s ongoing search for their next head coach. In February, Chris Silverwood has been relieved of duties a 4-0 defeat to Australia in the 2021/22 Ashes. Managing director of the England Cricket Board Ashley Giles also decided to resign from his post subsequently, with ex-captain Andrew Strauss taking over the reins as interim director. There are currently rumours which suggest that the ECB might be looking to approach things slightly differently, with two coaches, one for the red-ball side, while the other takes charge of the white-ball squad. Hardik Pandya and Abhinav Manohar’s heroics for Gujarat Titans were in vain as Kane Williamson scored a 46-ball 57 to take Sunrisers Hyderabad home. The Hyderabad franchise built on their maiden win against the Chennai Super Kings in their previous fixture with a clinical victory against Pandya’s undefeated GT. The 2016 champions registered a thumping victory in Monday’s encounter at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy in Pune, beating the Titans by an eight-wicket margin, chasing down 163, after a spirited bowling performance in the first half of the game. Sunrisers skipper Williamson snapped out of his patchy form, as he scored an excellent…
