India Women’s national team saw a few changes in their support staff ahead of the Australia tour. The BCCI appointed Gargi Banerjee as manager, while Subhadeep Ghosh took on the fielding coach role. Banerjee, a former India international, has been roped in as the team manager for the trip Down Under. She will replace Rajkuvardevi Gaekwad, who had taken over from Trupti Bhattacharya for the England tour in June. Banerjee, one of the biggest names in Bengal women’s cricket, has represented India in 12 Tests and 26 ODIs between 1978-91. She had also donned the role of women’s national selector. Oval Invincibles defeated Birmingham Phoenix by 20 runs in Eliminator to reach the final of The Hundred women’s competition against Southern Brave on Saturday. Tash Farrant and Marizanne Kapp were the heroes for Invincibles for snatching the victory out of Phoenix’s jaws. Chasing a low total of 115, Phoenix were 58/2 with 57 runs required off 55. Farrant and Kapp snared seven wickets between them to defend the total thrillingly. Birmingham Phoenix won the toss and chose to bowl first. Afghanistan’s series against Pakistan will happen as scheduled amidst uncertainty in the country after Taliban’s takeover. The three-match ODI series is set to take place in Sri Lanka in September. The ODI series will take place in Hambantota for the entirety of it, with the first match slated for September 3. The players from both sides will be required to go through a mandatory quarantine period of three days. Former Indian skipper Rahul Dravid has reapplied at the National Cricket Academy for the post of Head of Cricket. Dravid is the only prominent name to have applied for the job. The development should end the speculations of Dravid replacing Ravi Shastri as the head coach of the Indian cricket team. Shastri’s tenure as the India head coach comes to an end after the T20 World Cup in November. England have called back Dawid Malan while dropping Dom Sibley for the third Test against India at Headingley starting August 25. Malan, who last played a Test for England back in 2018, has scored 724 runs in 15 matches at an average of just 27.84. In his only appearance in the County Championship this season, he scored a magnificent 199 against Sussex at Headingley. England’s head coach Chris Silverwood believes that Malan will come good on his home turf. The Meg Lanning-led Australia women’s cricket team will be without the services of two of their key players – the pacer Megan Schutt and the spin all-rounder Jess Jonassen in the all-format series against India in September.
