Playing a Test match after a gap of four and a half years for India, off-spinner Jayant Yadav ran through New Zealand’s lower-order in the first hour on Day 4 in the second Test in Mumbai, allowing the Indian team to wrap up the Test and two-match series with a 1-0 lead. After frustratingly missing the outside edge on multiple deliveries at the start of play, Jayant, who was entrusted with the ball ahead of Axar Patel, finally got his rewards with the wicket of Rachin Ravindra (18). Jayant could’ve had his man earlier on had umpire Nitin Menon given what seemed like a plumb…

England skipper Joe Root feels he would be “naive” to think the forthcoming Ashes won’t be the lasting memory of his tenure as the Test captain. The Ashes, starting December 8 at the Gabba, will be Root’s third successive tour Down Under as player and second consecutive as captain. The last trip in 2017-2018 saw England get absolutely hammered by a 4-0 margin outside a dull draw on one of the flattest tracks at MCG. Root understands the history attached to the Ashes contests better than most and believes if he can become one of the rare English captains to comeback with the urn, he will be…

New Zealand left-arm spinner Ajaz Patel was elated as he achieved the incredible feat of becoming only the third bowler in the history of Test cricket to take 10 wickets in an innings. The remarkable record was bagged on Day 2 of the second Test against India in Mumbai, as he followed his four wickets on the opening day with the next six on December 4. Ajaz’s 10-fer helped New Zealand dismiss India for a total of 325, which the visitors couldn’t give a befitting response to – being bundled out for just 62 – but personally, the Mumbai born Kiwi spinner had a lot to savour from…

Like skipper Joe Root, veteran pacer Stuart Broad has urged England players to be mental switched on for the Ashes Down Under and is hoping that his team’s fortitude and belief will help them cover for lack of proper preparation before the series. England’s first warm-up game could see only 29 overs being bowled before torrential rains in Brisbane led to its abandonment. The second match – a three-day intra-squad fixture – was thus not recorded as a first-class encounter and saw players almost left to have extended practise sessions in the middle. https://twitter.com/englandcricket/status/1467101478838013954 Only just prior to the second warm-up game…

As England look to replicate the success that India enjoyed in Australia last summer, the home team’s middle-order bat Marnus Labuschagne says he is aware they could be following some of the bowling plans that the Indians executed to perfection. Taking cue from New Zealand’s struggles Down Under a summer earlier, India’s then bowling coach Bharat Arun asked his bowlers to try and completely cut out the off-side for Aussie batters and bowl straight with more cover through the on-side. Labuschagne made a slow start to the Border-Gavaskar Trophy as Indian seamers brought the ball into him sharply with two square leg fielders positioned quite often. The batter eventually found…

Promising uncapped Indian batter Abdul Samad said the call taken by Sunrisers Hyderabad to retain him and his statemate Umran Malik is “huge” as far as cricket in Kashmir is concerned.
