To counter swing initially in his innings, ex-Pakistan cricketer Wasim Akram believes, Indian batting great Virat Kohli should bat with a slightly open-chested stance. While Kohli’s widely acknowledged issue has been outside off-stump, Akram also highlighted a problem for the balls coming into the right-hander.  The ‘Sultan of Swing’ suggested the former Indian skipper to come up with a method to counter the new-ball swinging into his body.  Just for the first couple of overs, Akram reckons, Kohli should look to play straight with his front leg slightly opened up, especially against the left-arm pacers. “I think Kohli should bat…

The experienced pace bowler has been tremendous inside the powerplay, averaging just 7.38 with an economy rate of 4.92. His exploits with swing have rocked the opposition hard in the early stages of the games and given KKR a firm foot in the ascendancy. In many ways, a return to Kolkata has been a blessing for the…

Bangladesh are set to lodge an official complaint to the International Cricket Council regarding questionable decisions made by umpires and the sledging from the South African team in the Test that concluded on April 4. Bangladesh Cricket Board cricket operations chief Jalal Yunus told ESPNcricinfo that they have decided to raise the matter with ICC after, according to them, umpires showed greater leniency in their decision-making towards the home side and also ignored their complaints when the hosts threw inappropriate remarks at them. “We have already lodged one complaint about the umpiring after the ODI series. The match referee [Andy Pycroft] had…

ICC chief executive officer Geoff Allardice said that while the perception outside is that the organisation and its member nation’s underlying motive is financial, the game’s top administrators are eyeing global upliftment of the sport through inclusion in the summer games. The ICC and its major full-member countries have had a change of heart when it comes to cricket’s inclusion in the Olympics. Historically, countries like India, Australia and England have been averse to inclusion in the quadrennial event as they feared it would overlap with their bilateral arrangements. But things have changed on that front in recent times, with the ICC, at the behest of…

The Bangladesh think-tank is in pain and angst over “inconsistent” umpiring from match officials during the first Test against South Africa in Durban. As per their team director Khaled Mahmud, the side could well have restricted the opposition to a third-innings lead of around 180, not the eventual 274, if not for some of the questionable decisions.  With Bangladesh finishing play at 11 for three in their final innings run-chase, those decisions did come back to haunt the Mominul Haque-led side. Things went rather fine for the first half of the game, but the visitors were left dismayed by the number of their LBW appeals on which…
