Kolkata Knight Riders skipper and head coach could be under massive scrutiny for their post social media posts. The duo could be taken to task by their IPL franchise after the re-emergence of posts that had them mocking the Indian accent. The tweets are from 2018, where during a social-media exchange, Eoin Morgan, alongside fellow England player Jos Buttler, engaged in a conversation where they deliberately used the word ‘Sir’ several times to ridicule their Indians fans. Brendon McCullum joined the duo later and did the same. While the posts have now been deleted from the official accounts of those who were involved, the…

Emotions would’ve been one of complete contrast for South Africa captain Dean Elgar and West Indies skipper Kraigg Brathwaite after Day 1 of the first Test in St Lucia. While Brathwaite’s decision to bat first on a green seaming track backfired hugely, Elgar had a near-perfect outing to start off his tenure. The Proteas dismissed the Calypso Kings for one of their lowest-ever Test scores – 97 from 40.5 overs – with the pace and hostility of Lungi Ngidi and Anrich Nortje proving a touch too good for the opposition batsmen. Not for the first time, the current lot of West Indies Test batsmen were found wanting technically…

Burns and Lawrence held the fort commendably for England even as New Zealand threatened to run through their batting unit on what was a pretty even day’s play this Thursday to kick-off the second Test in Edgbaston. Burns, who scored a hundred last Test, continued his good form and rhythm, playing a very important knock of 81. Burns fought through the first session of play alongside fellow opener Dom Sibley (35) – England’s first opening session without a wicket lost on Day 1 of a home Test in a decade – and kept the Kiwis at bay for a large part of…

On Thursday, the Indian selectors named Shikhar Dhawan as India’s stand-in captain for the limited-overs tour of Sri Lanka in July, with Bhuvneshwar Kumar appointed as his deputy. The two experienced cricketers are given leadership roles in an inexperienced squad featuring multiple uncapped youngsters. In the absence of several regular white-ball cricketers, who will be in England at the time, the Chetan Sharma led selection panel has picked up quite a few fresh faces that have performed well at the domestic level and in the Indian Premier League. Among notable beneficiaries are Karnataka and Maharashtra batsmen Devdutt Padikkal and Ruturaj Gaikwad, respectively, with Saurashtra paceman Chetan Sakariya also joining…

If not rested for the series-deciding Test against New Zealand in Edgbaston, James Anderson will on Thursday become England’s most capped Test cricketer ever in the history of the game. He will surpass former teammate and friend, Sir Alastair Cook, who made 161 appearances in the whites for his country. Today, Anderson is widely regarded as one of the world’s best-ever pacemen, certainly the best that England have had to offer to the modern-day game. But back in the day, despite making a successful start to his career in 2003 against Zimbabwe, he felt doubtful of his capabilities and longevity…

Right-arm quick Nuwan Pradeep has made his return to the national side for Sri Lanka’s forthcoming white-ball trip to the UK, where they’ll take on England in three T20Is and three ODIs. Pradeep, known for his ability to get a spongy bounce out of any track, wasn’t included for the series against Bangladesh recently but has made his comeback to an otherwise inexperienced Sri Lanka limited-overs squad. All players, barring Ashen Bandara, have been retained from the Bangladesh ODIs in Dhaka, with a host of new faces also included in the 24-man travelling contingent for the England series. Kusal Perera will be captaining the side…

Former Australia fast-bowler Peter Siddle has taken an early flight back to his country and ended his season prematurely with Essex in the County Championship this summer. Siddle has cited personal reasons for his move. The 36-year-old quick’s decision comes despite him showing some fine form for Essex in the six rounds of fixtures he was involved in. Siddle took 20 wickets at just 24.40 per piece, helping Essex progress in Group 1 of the Championship.  Siddle said it was upsetting for him to leave his teammates early, but he hopes to be back playing for Essex the following summer. …

Amidst news of uncertainty over skipper Kane Williamson’s participation, NZ will be delighted to have their ace quick Trent Boult back for the series-deciding Test against England in Edgbaston, starting Thursday. Boult is available for the second and final Test of the series after being granted an exemption in quarantine norms from the UK government. The left-arm paceman, who opted to fly back home after IPL 2021 instead of indirectly travelling to the UK via the Maldives like others, was allowed to train with the rest of the Kiwi squad three days before the stipulated time. “The original plan we…

England’s prominent all-rounder is set to feature in his first T20 Blast fixture since 2018 for Durham as he looks to regain cricketing fitness after recovering from a finger injury he suffered at the start of IPL 2021. Stokes damaged his finger as he dived forward to pick up a catch at the start of Rajasthan Royals’ campaign in this year’s IPL. He was subsequently ruled out of the tournament. He didn’t have to spend around 12 weeks out of the action as was expected before the surgery. “I’m able to bowl, I’m able to get in the gym and…

Mushfiqur Rahim has pushed forward a request to the Bangladesh selectors to allow him to opt out of the T20Is on the forthcoming tour of Zimbabwe. However, the Bangladeshi batting stalwart is available for the Test and ODIs to be played during the trip. Although the request hasn’t been approved yet, the Bangladesh chief selector Minhajul Abedin express his sympathies with Mushfiqur. “Mushfiq has requested for a break during the T20Is, but he is available for the Test and ODIs. I think he may be tired after playing for so long, which is why he wants the leave. We will…
