England’s young middle-order batsman Ollie Pope has been sidelined from cricketing action with an injury until the start of three lions’ much-anticipated five-Test series versus India, beginning August 4. Owing to the COVID-19 positive cases observed in the Sri Lankan team camp, India’s limited-overs series in the Island nation was postponed on Friday and will now have a delayed start.  This was a prudent call taken by Sri Lanka Cricket in communication with the BCCI, as the host board wanted its personnel to go through an extended quarantine to ensure everyone’s safety. Since the quarantine will last till near the eve of the opening ODI on July 13 as per the original schedule, it made sense to give the home team more time to recover and practise before taking…

Australia squandered a fantastic opportunity to go 1-0 up in the five-match T20I series against the West Indies this Saturday, conceding defeat by 18 runs when they had the game firmly in their grasp. The visitors suffered a horrible collapse, going from 89/4 to 127 all out in the space of eight overs in their quest to chase down West Indies’ 145/6. It all really started with the wicket of Mitchell Marsh, who, flag-bearing an aggressive Australian approach, had struck a breezy half-century (51 off 33 balls) when he made an error in judgment and ballooned the ball back to leg-spinner Hayden…

The three players have made a comeback in the reckoning after missing West Indies’ previous ODI series in March against Sri Lanka due to their failure to attain the minimum fitness standards required. The rest of the ODI squad led by Kieron Pollard has been retained from the 3-0 series victory over the Lankans, barring off-spinner Kevin Sinclair and left-hand batsman Kyle Mayers. The selectors have kept young speedster Anderson Philip in the mix after his debut in the final one-dayer against Sri Lanka. “This squad is coming off a comprehensive series win against Sri Lanka which should boost their confidence going into what is expected to be…

Clearing the air on their T20I leadership group, Afghanistan Cricket Board named wrist-spinner Rashid Khan as captain for the shortest form of the game, besides appointing middle-order batsman Najibullah Zadran as his deputy. Rashid, who has previously also served as the limited-overs skipper, has been brought back at the helm of affairs in T20Is after the controversial all-format sacking of Asghar Afghan. Interestingly, when he was first given the captaincy badge after the 2019 World Cup in the UK, Asghar had taken over from him soon thereafter. “Rashid was selected by senior ACB leadership led by ACB Chairman Farhan Yousefzai, for the role…

England men’s managing director Ashley Giles insisted the ECB hasn’t taken any gamble with regards to players’ health safety in relaxing some of the stringent COVID-19 protocols for them this summer. Giles answered questions raised over England players’ bubble security for the season after three players and four support staff members tested positive on Tuesday in Cardiff. The entire first-choice ODI squad had to self-isolate ahead of the Pakistan series. This led to the naming of an entirely different squad captained by all-rounder Ben Stokes. Even though the protocols, including regular testing, are still there, they aren’t as restrictive as the last summer where England hosted…
