Despite being in big trouble and nowhere close to winning in the second ODI, India found a batting hero in Deepak Chahar to propel them to a series win. After looking completely out of sorts in the opening ODI, Sri Lanka performed quite brilliantly to take the fight back to India in the second game on Tuesday. However, an exceptional lower-order hand from Deepak Chahar meant the visitors still came out triumphant and sealed the three-match series 2-0. Having reduced India to 193/7 in the 36th over defending their score of 275, Sri Lanka had a firm grip over the contest and looked like finally ending their longstanding losing streak in ODIs at home against their subcontinent rivals. But memorable innings of 69 not out from fast-bowler Deepak and his unbeaten partnership with fellow paceman Bhuvneshwar…

Wicketkeeper-batsman Matthew Wade is willing to lead the visiting Australian side during their three-match ODI series against West Indies, starting Tuesday, if regular skipper Aaron Finch doesn’t recover from his knee injury. Finch aggravated a knee problem that he had been managing for a while during the fifth and final T20I in St Lucia and now looks like an unlikely participant for Australia’s three ICC Super League fixtures in Barbados versus the Calypso Kings. Finch’s injury has led to questioning marks over his potential captaincy replacement, with vice-captain Pat Cummins and senior pros Steve Smith, David Warner missing the Caribbean trip. Wade, the T20I vice-captain on the tour, is one…

Bangladesh were able to secure victory in the second ODI against Zimbabwe in Harare on Sunday despite twice suffering a collapse in their chase, thanks to an excellent saviour act from all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan. Shakib brought all his ability and experience to the fore in helping the visitors stay afloat amid two genuinely precarious situations and eventually come out triumphant by three wickets. Chasing a score of 241, Bangladesh found themselves 75/4 at one stage, having lost openers Tamim Iqbal (20), Liton Das (21) prematurely and also middle-order batsmen Mohammad Mithun (2), Mosaddek Hossain (5) without them troubling the scorers much. No.3 Shakib, however, held the fort…

Stand-in captain Shikhar Dhawan anchored the innings brilliantly around Prithvi Shaw and Ishan Kishan’s impressive onslaught to help India get their Sri Lanka tour off to a winning start on Sunday. The visitors made a comfortable feast of the 263-run target in the first ODI on what was a slow-paced track in Colombo’s R Premadasa. Dhawan made a highly composed knock of 86 not out, where he was happy to be second fiddle to Shaw and Kishan in the early part of the innings and then opened up to play his free-flowing natural game. Shaw only batted 24 balls in his innings but blazed…
