Inaugural season Premier League champions have brought in New Zealand’s Glenn Phillips to fill the huge void left by the absence of Jos Buttler for the UAE leg of the Indian Premier League 2021. The aggressive Kiwi right-hand batsman scored 500 runs from his 12 innings in this English summer’s T20 Blast at a strike-rate of 163.40 while maintaining an average of 55.56. This was followed by another stand-out run in The Hundred where he made 214 runs at a strike-rate of 146.57. Phillips, who was the second-highest run-scorer of the previous year’s Caribbean Premier League, was also one of the more exceptional performers from New Zealand’s bumper T20I season last…

SB’s pace quartet ran through the Rockets batting line-up to set up the summit clash for the inaugural men’s edition of The Hundred against Birmingham Phoenix on Saturday. The hosts dismissed their opposition for just 96 off the 91 deliveries they bowled before chasing down the paltry 97-run target at the loss of just three wickets and another 32 balls to spare. George Garton delivered the body blow to Rockets’ chances by sending their top-order, featuring Dawid Malan (14) and Alex Hales (4), back with his opening burst. The Board of Control for Cricket in India has come up with a revised calendar for the upcoming domestic season. The Ranji Trophy 2021-22 season, which was earlier supposed to begin from November 16, will now kickstart on January 5 next year. The postponement came after several associations requested the board for more time to prepare for the red-ball competition, which was cancelled in 2020-21 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Ranji Trophy will conclude on March 20, 2021. The visitors, who lost gut-wrenchingly by just one wicket in the previous Test, found themselves three down for only two runs before skipper Babar Azam and Fawad Alam helped them bounce back. Windies couldn’t break through the stand of Babar and Fawad easily. The two batted with great patience and discipline under difficult circumstances and shared a 166-run fourth-wicket stand to push Pakistan towards a respectable 212/4 by the close of play. As it happened, Pakistan made the worst possible start to the proceedings after losing the toss and being asked to bat by the hosts. The Asian giants lost their top three batters…

Pakistan will be resting skipper Babar Azam and three other key players for their upcoming ODI series against Afghanistan, ESPNcricinfo stated in a report. Babar, alongside pacers Shaheen Afridi, Hasan Ali and wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan, will be provided a much-needed break before getting on with preparations for the T20 World Cup. Pakistan have identified the Afghanistan series as an opportunity to rest the four cricketers, who have spent excessive time within bio-security bubbles due to the COVID-19 pandemic amid a busy, all-format international and domestic calendar. On a high after winning the series against Australia 4-1, Bangladesh have received a further boost for the T20Is against New Zealand as Mushfiqur Rahim and Liton Das make a comeback to the national side after forced absence. Both Mushfiqur and Liton, integral to Bangladesh’s limited-overs batting unit, were ruled out of the T20Is against the Aussies in Dhaka after failing to comply with the COVID-19 protocols set by Cricket Australia and Bangladesh Cricket Board. The two cricketers couldn’t enter the series’ bio-bubble in time after attending their respective family emergencies following the tour of Zimbabwe in July. But with them back in the reckoning now, the…
Even though Pakistan suffered a painful defeat in the low-scoring first Test in Jamaica against West Indies, bowling coach Waqar Younis was pleased with the effort put in by his team’s bowling unit. “When you miss so many opportunities in such tense moments then that will definitely hurt you. But overall if you analyse the bowling I must say all the bowlers bowled really well throughout the Test match,” said the fast bowling legend in a virtual press conference, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo. “Despite the small target, they put in all the hard work, responded well, the way they fought in…
New Zealand fast bowler Kyle Jamieson is looking forward to the UAE leg of the Indian Premier League 2021 as he eyes fine-tuning of his bowling in the shortest form of the game ahead of the T20 World Cup. With Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah doubling up as host venues for the two immensely popular events, RCB’s Jamieson says he will have a head start getting used to those conditions. New Zealand take on Pakistan on October 26 in Sharjah to kickstart their campaign at the T20 World Cup. They will also face India, Afghanistan and two preliminary group qualifiers in the Super 12 stage in…
Legendary wicketkeeper-batsman Adam Gilchrist is disappointed to see news leaked to the outside world from the Australian change room and fears that such a situation could lead to distrust with the team ahead of the next home summer, including the Ashes 2021-22. One major leak concerning coach Justin Langer did the rounds recently where reports had him involved in a heated exchange with a Cricket Australia staff member. It is understood that the angry altercation was borne out of Langer’s disappointment that cricket.com.au posted a video featuring the Bangladesh team’s celebrations post his team’s 4-1 T20I series defeat in Dhaka. Before that defeat, Australia also lost…
