KL Rahul had a series to forget after scoring just 15 runs in 4 games against England in the T20Is. Despite his poor showing, he would score 62* in the first ODI followed by a brilliantly played century in the second ODI.
After failing to put up a good show against England in the T20Is, many thought Rahul would be dropped for the games in the ODI series but in a surprise move, he was named in the line-up for the first ODI.
It ended up being a great decision as Rahul was back to his very best, timing the ball beautifully as he scored a brilliant 62 not out after coming out to bat at number five. The knock would prove to be decisive as India comfortably defeated England by 66 runs.
Similarly in the second ODI, Rahul would go on to score a well-played hundred.
Legendary attacking batsman Virender Sehwag was full of praise for captain Virat Kohli.
KL Rahul has played at almost every slot. He might be one of the favourite batsmen of captain, hence he has tried to adjust him in every batting position. That is necessary, when a new player comes in, to make him a part of the playing XI,
Sehwag said.
He also stated that Rahul’s mentality changed in the ODIs because he was allowed to come down the order instead of opening the innings.
Even if you play him at no. 11, but you have to play them to give them confidence. India captain Virat Kohli has a huge role in making KL Rahul the great batsman he is today,
he added.
KL Rahul, the Orange Cap winner in IPL 2020, will now gear up to lead Punjab Kings in the upcoming edition of the tournament.
