In response to a viral video of Sir Alex Ferguson displaying confusion over Cristiano Ronaldo’s absence against Everton, Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer spoke of his mentor’s disagreement and stated that the reason behind Ronaldo’s snub was to keep him fit.
“I’m sure Sir Alex knows that it doesn’t bother me. We all want to see Cristiano,”
But the plain fact of it is he cannot play every single game that we play, that’s just physical nature, human nature.”
he said.
While the Portuguese did make an appearance off the bench, United ended up drawing their last league game against Everton, 1-1.
Furthermore, Solskjaer also spoke about Marcus Rashford and his return to fitness. The England international is expected to be in the squad for the trip to Leicester City.
Peculiarly though, the Norwegian claimed that the youngster needs to ‘prioritize’ his football in the wake of his repeated social contributions. Solskjaer’s comments seemed to cause some bewilderment among the fans, who had championed Rashford as a driver of social change.
“Marcus has done some remarkable and fantastic things, but now he maybe needs to prioritize his football,”
“Marcus knows that we want a lot from him, but we are going to give him the time to get back to what he was and what he can be.”
Solskjaer remarked.
Rashford, underwent surgery in the summer, effectively ruling him out of the start of the new season, is yet to play in the 2021/22 campaign. His return will provide a major boost to the Red Devils, who benefitted majorly from his 21 goals last campaign.
