Brendan Rodgers’ exceptional work at Leicester City hasn’t gone unnoticed. Despite missing out on the UEFA Champions League in consecutive seasons, his stock remains high within the Premier League. While Manchester City eye the Northern Irishman as Pep Guardiola’s successor, Newcastle want him to become the face of a new era.

Last week, the relegation-threatened Newcastle side was bought out by a consortium led by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund from Mike Ashley, thus bringing an end to the latter’s much-maligned reign.

Nonetheless, the former Manchester United captain Bruce is likely to lose his job sooner rather than later. As per Gianluca Di Marzio, Rodgers is the favourite to take over from him.

While Rodgers is Newcastle’s number one target for the managerial position, he is reluctant to leave Leicester City at the moment. The Telegraph’s John Percy reports that he remains fully committed to the Foxes.

Meanwhile, conflicting reports from the Daily Mail suggest that the Northern Irishman will snub the Magpies in favour to take over at Manchester City – once Pep Guardiola leaves the club.

The Cityzens have previously chased the tactician initially to be a part of Roberto Mancini’s backroom staff and later to take over from the Italian as first-team manager.

Rodgers is under consideration at City to replace Guardiola – as and when the Spaniard decides to leave the club. The report states that could be as soon as 2023, with Guardiola’s contract at the Etihad coming to an end. Rodgers previously managed Liverpool and Swansea City in the Premier League.
