The club’s long-lasting financial conundrum reached the stage where the administrators had to take over, and their great start to the season was nullified after their points were docked.
Derby’s current owner Mel Morris revealed that the club was facing a loss of 1.3 million to 1.5 million pounds per month, which led the managing directors at Quantuma, a business advisory firm, to take control. The club is currently being controlled by Andrew Hosking, Carl Jackson, and Andrew Andronikou.
“The Administrators at Derby County have lodged an appeal against the 12-point deduction imposed on the club’s 2021/22 season total on 22 September 2021.
As a consequence, this matter has been referred to an independent Arbitration panel who will consider representations from both parties before making a determination,”
an EFL statement said.
As it stands, Wayne Rooney’s side points tally remained unchanged until the arbitration panel decides to overrule the deduction. The Rams are currently bottom of the second division table with just 2 points to their credit.
Without the deduction, the club would’ve been in the top half of the table, which is an excellent result considering that they played with just 15 active players in a few games.
Rooney has been funding their away trips and accommodations, and they next prepare to travel to Lancashire to face Preston North End. While the administrators will try to find a feasible financial solution for this club to get out of jail, they will be ready to hear propositions from potential buyers.
It was being reported by Daily Mirror that Mike Ashley, former owner of Newcastle United, is considering overtaking Derby. With the Saudi-backed consortium taking charge of Magpies, Ashley was set free of his duties in Tyneside, but he wishes to continue in the footballing world.
Derby County, who were the champions of the first division twice back in the 70s, have failed to reach the Premier League since getting relegated in 2008.
