Andreas Christensen is close to signing a new contract with Chelsea, until 2022, reports Fabrizio Romano. The Danish centre-back was the subject of interest from other clubs but is expected to commit his future to the Blues.
Chelsea academy graduate Christensen himself spoke to the Chelsea website recently, underlining his desire to sign the new deal. The Dane that while there is still a small gap to be covered in the talks, they are progressing in the right direction.
“It’s hard to know how things will end up. There is a lot of talk. I will not say too much, but I think it looks good. I am happy to be at Chelsea.”
he said.
Christensen joined the Blue in 2012 from Brondby and made his senior debut just two years later. He spent two years on loan at Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach and returned to London in 2017 to be included in the senior squad.
The 25-year-old has been in and out of the first eleven ever since but has come to establish his place in the starting line-up recently under Thomas Tuchel’s reign.
Chelsea are also attempting to tie Antonio Rudiger down to a new deal; the German is in the final year of his contract and will be able to talk to interested clubs from January 2022. Rudiger has attracted interest from Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Paris Saint-Germain, while talks continue with Chelsea.
Finally, the Blues will focus on further renewals once they have dealt with their center-back pairing. Next in line are midfielder N’Golo Kante and Jorginho, while Mason Mount is also expected to be rewarded with a bumper new deal following his excellent displays.
