After letting Lionel Messi (PSG) and Antoine Griezmann (Atletico Madrid, loan) go in the summer and signing Luke de Jong from Sevilla, the Catalans will turn their attention towards signing another attacker in January 2022.
Due to their recent financial problems, Barca will target players that they can sign for 15-25 million euros, reports Sport. The club will aim for players whose contract is up in June 2022, enabling them to secure a cut-price deal rather than paying the full market value. Among the names on the list are Manchester United’s Edinson Cavani, Torino’s Andrea Belotti, Napoli’s Lorenzo Insigne, and Liverpool’s Divock Origi.
Barcelona are no stranger to Origi, who infamously scored the final goal for Liverpool in the 4-0 humiliation in the 2018/19 UEFA Champions League.
The Belgian international converted a quickly-taken corner from Trent Alexander-Arnold and overturned the Reds’ 3-0 deficit from the first leg. He is reportedly now a target for the club and could be playing for them as soon as January 2022.
The Blaugrana have also been linked with Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling in recent weeks. As per previous reports, the club attempted to sign the Englishman in the summer and could return for him in the January transfer window.
As per El Nacional, City will ask for Ousmane Dembele in return for the England international, thus satisfying the needs of both clubs.
The Frenchman is a divisive figure at Camp Nou, with several fans claiming him to be a failure since his 135-million move to Camp Nou from Borussia Dortmund in 2017.
