Reports claim a new name has emerged for the position of the next Barcelona manager, that of the current Chelsea boss.
Ronald Koeman’s position as the head coach of the Blaugrana comes under increasing scrutiny with each passing matchday. The Dutchman is thought to be on his way out, with the club only waiting to select his replacement before officially announcing their decision to part ways.
As per Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona president Joan Laporta is especially keen on replacing Koeman with Thomas Tuchel. The German tactician’s stock is very high at the moment after he led the Blues to an unprecedented Champions League title last season.
The 48-year-old joined Chelsea in January 2021, and had led them to the summit of European football within six months. The London club is aiming to win the league this season and is currently on 13 points from six games.
Nonetheless, Barcelona are expected to continue with Koeman at the helm for another matchday, at least. The Blaugrana are facing incumbent champions Atletico Madrid in the La Liga, and Koeman claimed previously that the club is yet to communicate whether or not his job is in danger.
“The club hasn’t mentioned anything to me yet,”
“The President was here this morning but we didn’t see each other, because we were preparing for tomorrow’s game.
We had training sessions, I don’t know the situation now, but I haven’t been told anything. Obviously, I have my own ears and eyes and I know that a lot of things get leaked. So, I suppose some truth lies behind these rumors, but nothing has been told to me directly.”
he said.
On Wednesday, Koeman’s men suffered a 3-0 loss in their Champions League group stage encounter against SL Benfica. The Spanish giants had lost their opening match in the competition by the same scoreline against Bayern Munich and are currently bottom of their group.
