Spain National Team manager Luis Enrique has called up Barcelona’s teenage starlet Gavi for the upcoming international break. La Roja is currently scheduled to play only Italy in the UEFA Nations League but will participate in at least one more match depending on the outcome; Enrique’s team will play Belgium or France in either the third-place match or the final.
Apart from the 17-year-old Gavi, Enrique has also called up 18-year-old Villarreal forward Yeremy Pino – who will make his first appearance for Spain’s senior side if selected.
Chelsea’s Marcos Alonso has been rewarded for his fantastic start to the season by a recall, and he is joined in the international camp by club-mate Cesar Azpilicueta. No out-and-out strikers have been included in the squad, with both Alvaro Morata and Gerard Moreno sidelined due to injuries at present.
In contrast, Roberto Mancini has named the same squad as the one which won the European Championship in the summer, but for one exception. AS Roma’s captain and talisman Lorenzo Pellegrini is back in the fold after missing out on the competition due to an injury.
Andrea Belotti, Alessandro Florenzi, Gaetano Castrovilli, and Leonardo Spinazzola are the notable exclusions. Italy play Spain in the semi-final on October 6.
England, who finished third in the previous iteration of the UEFA Nations League, have called up Fikayo Tomori and Ollie Watkins for the upcoming international break. The Three Lions won’t be participating in the UEFA competition this time around. Instead, they will take on Andorra and Hungary as part of the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.
Tomori takes up Ben White’s place in the England squad – where he is joined by former Chelsea teammates Mason Mount and Reece James. There is no recall for Tammy Abraham yet, despite his sensational start to life at AS Roma. Rather, Gareth Southgate has decided to call up Aston Villa’s Watkins, who joins all the usual suspects in the team.
