Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag was not impressed with what Dinesh Karthik said about Eoin Morgan’s take on the Ashwin-Pant extra run scenario, which seemed to have caused social media havoc.
Morgan and Tim Southee went after Ravichandran Ashwin for the extra run he took when the ball ricocheted off Rishabh Pant, and that turned out to be a major talking point after the game between Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals.
After the game, Karthik mentioned that Morgan doesn’t appreciate such stuff, and since it is a grey area, he would not be commenting further on it. However, the cricketing world remains incredibly divided on this aspect, with the likes of Shane Warne calling Ashwin’s behaviour a “Disgrace”.
Virender Sehwag, however, reminded Morgan of the Ben Stokes incident during the 2019 World Cup final, when Martin Guptill’s throw deflected off Stokes’ bat and headed to the boundary. Six runs were awarded for England, which proved to be crucial in the game heading to the super over.
In a Twitter thread after the game, Ashwin pointed that he was called a “Disgrace to the game” by Southee and Morgan.
Ashwin was seen having a verbal argument with the both and had to be separated by Karthik to avoid further nuisance.
Ashwin later had a telling moment in the game when he dismissed Morgan for a duck, but Kolkata emerged victorious by three wickets.
This entire incident once again left everyone debating about the existing cricket laws and have urged the ICC to not be reactionary over this issue. However, if past incidents are any indications, it seems like the ICC has no problem with the way the laws are functioning and will not react unless there is a significant incident to influence.
