Leeds United central midfield Kalvin Philipps is one area the Red Devils are keen to strengthen during the 2022 summer transfer window, reports Daily Star. To that end, they have been linked with Declan Rice (West Ham) and Jude Bellingham (Borussia Dortmund) in recent months but are likely to face stiff competition for the pair.
The report claims that United have turned their attention towards Phillips after dropping the pursuit of Rice, who is expected to cost them in the region of 90 million pounds.
Meanwhile, the Red Devils have fallen behind some of their rivals in the race for Bellingham, and as a consequence, have shortlisted Phillips as the alternative target.
However, pricing Phillips away from Leeds United will not be an easy task for the club as his current deal runs until 2024, while his value is in the region of 60 million pounds. Moreover, the two clubs consider themselves fierce rivals, albeit that hasn’t prevented United from shopping at Leeds in the past.
Meanwhile, Manchester United’s rivals Liverpool are said to be leading the race to sign teenage sensation Jude Bellingham, reveals the Daily Star. The Merseysiders are prepared to spend big on the England international, valued at 100 million pounds by Borussia Dortmund, despite their strict policy in terms of transfer spending.
The 18-year-old has been of interest to United in the past, while recent reports have linked Chelsea, Manchester City, and Liverpool with the teenage midfielder. He has started the 2021/22 season in sensational form, hitting two goals in his nine appearances so far, including one in the UEFA Champions League.
