Despite completing some massive signings last summer, Manchester United’s trajectory has not gone as per plan at the start of the season. The 20-time first division champions have lost their Champions League opener to Young Boys, followed it up with a League Cup defeat to West Ham United, and a Premier League defeat to Aston Villa further intensified the pressure.
United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is under immense pressure as it stands, and club legend Gary Neville, who led the side to four Premier League titles and a Champions League back in the day, believes that the Red Devils’ football is “Not good enough” to win a league trophy:
“You need patterns of play, a way of playing and in this moment of time I still see a group of individuals playing in moments – with some patterns and combinations at times – but still a team with some that are pretty new to each other,”
the former England international said.
Ex-United right-back mentioned that the top Premier League clubs right now, like Manchester City and Liverpool, have well-renowned systems and their consistent structure moving forward on the pitch makes them impeccable. However, that has not been the case for United moving forward, who found it difficult to put the ball in the net in the last 180 minutes.
Neville insisted that the side must work on putting together patterns of play like the Reds and City, which will give their side an identity on the pitch and provide more consistency that is required to win big titles.
With 13 points to their credit in six games, Manchester United are fourth on the league table, and if Brighton win on Monday night, they will slip to fifth. Cristiano Ronaldo, the club legend who re-signed for the club after leaving Juventus in August, found next to no service in the game against Aston Villa.

Solskjaer’s men managed 28 shots on goal, with less than 5 of them on target. They conceded a late goal to Kortney Hause, whose header in the 88th minute sealed all three points for the visiting side.
