PSG attacker suffered a knock of his left knee and the MRI scan showed signs of bone contusion. The Argentine missed the 2-1 win against Metz and will be again unavailable for their upcoming Ligue 1 game against Montpellier (September 25).
Messi will again be assessed ahead of Champions League clash against Manchester City. However, PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino is very hopeful that the 34-year-old will be available for their crucial Champions League clash against Manchester City.
“Messi has started to run today. We are going to assess him and we hope he improves. Let’s wait for him to come back, but in any case, we have to be cautious and in the next days we will see his progress.
“On Sunday, we will be able to give a positive update. We hope everything goes well and he will be available again. Yes, we hope he can play (against City). We have to be cautious.”
Pochettino told reporters on Friday.
The Argentine tactician has his plans set for the upcoming Ligue 1 match against Montpellier. Midfielder Angel Di Maria will feature in the league clash as he is suspended for their next Champions League match. Hence Pochettino is sure that things will work out smoothly for the Parisians.
Pochettino also highlighted how Mauro Icardi has stepped up this season, and he is hopeful that in future someone or the other will step up for the Parisians.
Italian midfielder Marco Verratti is back in training and may feature in their match against City. However, former Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos is still recovering from his calf injury.
Despite having a lot of depth in their roster, Pochettino needs Lionel Messi to find his feet in Paris. The former Barcelona man has not had a good start to life in France, but the 34-year-old will be eager to recover from his injury and get back to form.
