Manchester United have been rampant especially in the Premier League. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men are at the Premier League summit along with Chelsea and Liverpool with four wins out of five matches.
United custodian David De Gea believes that Cristiano Ronaldo’s arrival at Old Trafford has created a massive impact on the players. The Spaniard feels that Cristiano will help them to compete for trophies this season.
This summer, United have signed a bunch of stars – Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane. While they signed a few players this summer, luring the Portugeuse was Solskjaer’s biggest feat in this summer transfer window. Despite Ronaldo’s age – 36 – he still brings in the winning mentality as he scored four goals in three outings for the Red Devils this season.
De Gea explained Ronaldo’s impact on the entire squad in an interaction with Sky Sports:
“I think that the impact is already there. It’s amazing to have him back at home.
“He’s already a legend in the club, so I think for the players, for the young lads, for everyone, he’s a great guy to see every day how he works in the gym, how he treats himself, how he takes care of his body, and of himself.
Ronaldo has won several accolades over the years for the clubs he has represented, and he has brought that same winning mentality to this Manchester United side. The former Sporting CP man has guided the Red Devils to three Premier League titles and an iconic Champions League triumph during his first term at Old Trafford.
Therefore Ronaldo will be eager to end United’s infamous five-year barren spell and help them to win titles this season. De Gea is confident that Solskjaer men will fight for titles this season and will also enjoy a productive season under Solskjaer’s tutelage:
“Every game is difficult, we want to fight for the big trophies, try to fight for the Premier League, the Champions League, for everything and I think we have the squad and the players and we have the fans with us so it’s amazing. I think the club is in a good point”.
While United have enjoyed rampant form in the Premier League, they have been underwhelming in the Champions League. The Red Devils have lost 2-1 against Young Boys in their Champions League opener and were also beaten 1-0 by West Ham United in the Carabao Cup recently.
United will have to up their level at the continental level and also maintain consistency in the Premier League. Solskjaer will also want to perform well in the FA Cup later this year.
