Despite making a solid comeback to action in DC’ commanding victory over SRH, Shreyas Iyer said he is not “satisfied” yet and is looking forward to fulfilling his “hunger” for runs in the coming matches.
Making a comeback to the game after an absence of more than four months following recovery from a shoulder surgery and rehab, Iter played a solid knock of 47 not out off 41 balls in the run-chase versus the Sunrisers, ensuring DC have a win by eight wickets to consolidate a top position in IPL 2021 points table.
But given the extended time he has spent away from the action, one innings is hardly going to fulfil the “appetite”, which Iyer said, keeps on “increasing” with every game.
“I wouldn’t say I am satisfied because the hunger has gone up. The appetite keeps on increasing with every match you play. So I am not satisfied or content.”
the DC No.3 was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.
Iyer also played down suggestions that an unexpected removal from captaincy might have affected him. The Indian right-hander was not retained at the captaincy post by DC think-tank upon his comeback recently, with the franchise opting to keep Rishabh Pant at the helm.
But he said even though captaincy helped him immensely in bringing the best out of him over the last two years, he “respects” the decision taken by the team management and ownership group at the same time. Iyer also backed Pant to keep DC on the right track, having done “really well” according to him as a skipper in IPL 2021.
Delhi Capitals next play Rajasthan Royals on Saturday in Abu Dhabi. The team stands comfortably at the top of the table with seven wins and two losses from nine games.
