Marco Asensio scored a hattrick for Real Madrid against his former side Mallorca, in a 6-1 win for Los Blancos. Karim Benzema continued his great run of form by bagging a brace while forgotten man Isco scored too.
Karim Benzema gave Real the lead in the third minute; the striker capitalized on a slip by central defender Josep Gaya before hitting the ball across the goalkeeper from inside the box. Asensio scored the first of his three goals in the 24th minute, putting Real Madrid up two goals to nil. The attacker was left with the simplest of finishes after Manolo Reina’s save fell into his feet inside the six-yard area.
However, Lee Kang-in reduced the deficit just a minute later when he found the bottom corner from outside the box. Asensio restored Real Madrid’s two-goal cushion five minutes later – punctuating a sensational thirty-minute period that saw four goals. The Spaniard latched onto a flick by Benzema before racing into the box and cleverly placing it past the goalkeeper.
Real Madrid’s domination continued after the interval as Asensio completed his hattrick in the 55th minute with a shot from outside the box. Benzema, who had a goal ruled out earlier, grabbed his brace in the 78th minute; the Frenchman’s shot from inside the box took a huge deflection before looping over Reina. Substitute Isco added a sixth in the 84th minute by directing a pass from Vinicius into the net.
