According to the Football Insider, Manchester City had rejected a 15-million-pound bid for the stiker Liam Delap from Dortmund.
Manchester City’s teenage sensation made his debut for the club in an EFL Cup game against AFC Bournemouth last season. Having made his Premier League debut as well soon after that, it was confirmed by Pep Guardiola that the young forward will be integrated into the first-team squad.
City are without an out-and-out striker this season with the departure of Sergio Aguero. They were close to complete the signing of Harry Kane, but the Spurs boss Daniel Levy remained stubborn with the price that the defending champions couldn’t meet.
Delap, who signed a new contract keeping him until the club for 2026 last month, is widely regarded as one of the brightest British prospects. He scored 24 goals in 20 appearances for City’s U23 team last season, helping them win the Premier League 2 Division one title.
Despite many clubs trying to find a loan deal, City tied him down in anticipation of him being used a lot more frequently in the league season. Delap had appeared for the U23 team again last Saturday and scored a goal in their 4-1 win against Crystal Palace.
His father, Rory Delap, had formerly represented Southampton, Stoke City, Sunderland and Derby County in the past, besides making 11 appearances for the Republic of Ireland.
Manchester City are keen on defending their title this season and signed Aston Villa’s talisman Jack Grealish for a British record transfer fee. Their season got off to a timid start, with them losing the Community Shield to Leicester City and going 1-0 down Spurs on the opening game week of Premier League.
Since then, they have remained unbeaten and started their Carabao Cup defence with a stellar performance against Wycombe Wanderers, beating them 6-1. They also registered a 6-3 win in their opening game of the Champions League campaign against RB Leipzig.
