Chelsea midfielder became the latest victim of burglary whilst away on Champions League duty for the club.
Reece James’ confirmed that the thieves stole a safe containing Champions League and Super Cup winners’ medals, along with the Euro 2020 runners-up medal.
James reported via Instagram that the robbery took place on September 14, whilst Chelsea’s Champions League match against Zenit Saint Petersburg (1-0) was being played. He asked for help in identifying the perpetrators from the supporters.
“I never keep any jewelry of mine in my house so all that was contained in the safe were my Champions League winners medal and Super Cup winners medal and the runners-up medal for the Euro 2020,”
“These medals were won representing Chelsea and England – honors that can never be taken away from me whether or not I have the physical medals to prove it.
the 21-year-old said.
The Surrey Police department confirmed the theft in a later statement while also reporting that a full investigation is being conducted.
James collected the Champions League and the UEFA Super Cup medals earlier this year, playing a key role for Chelsea in the former. He started in the UCL final against Manchester City, playing the entirety of the match in his preferred right-wingback role as the Blues won 1-0.
Later in the summer, James was part of the England squad that finished runners-up to Italy in the Euro (1-1, 3-2 on penalties).
The 21-year-old is the latest footballer to fall victim to house theft whilst away on match duty. Burglars have targeted high-profile footballers continuously in the past, with their victims including the likes of Dele Alli, Chris Smalling, Angel Di Maria, Mamadou Sakho, and Carlo Ancelotti.
