Chelsea are planning to reward Mason Mount with a new contract – reports 90min. The England international has been one of the mainstays in the Blues’ starting XI, and was instrumental in their Champions League-winning run last season. The youngster was named the club’s Player of the Season even before he assisted Kai Havertz with a brilliant through ball to score the winning goal in the competition’s final.
Mount’s current deal at Chelsea – which he renewed shortly after Lampard was brought on as the head coach – runs until 2024. The report claims that the club is preparing a new deal, which would double the players salary to around £150,000 per week.
The contract could also extend his Chelsea stay. Mount’s new weekly earnings will rank him in the upper bracket of earners at the club, although he will still be a few levels below the top ones, such as N’Golo Kante and Romelu Lukaku.
A full England international with a Euro under his belt, Mount came through the ranks at Chelsea – a club which he had signed for when he was six. Successful loan spells at Vitesse Arnhem and Derby County propelled Mount closer to the first team, but Lampard’s appointment as the head coach and a FIFA-levied transfer ban thrust him into the first-team picture.
The 22-year-old midfielder made 53 appearances in his first season at the club and scored eight goals. He made one more appearance and scored one more goal in the subsequent campaign, which ended with him lifting the UEFA Champions League trophy for the club. Mount has made four appearances this season, although he is yet to score a goal.
