Manchester United midfielder has started the Premier League season in scintillating form, racking up seven assists from four matches so far. However, his manager – Ole Gunnar Solskjaer – has played down the achievement.
The Frenchman’s efforts have not been in vain, with United currently leading the league on the basis of goals scored. The Red Devils have hit the back of the net on eleven different occasions this season so far, with multiple goals coming against Newcastle United (5-0) on the latest matchday and Leeds United (5-1) on the first. A majority of Pogba’s assists, naturally, have come in those two games.
“Paul has come back in good shape. He’s worked really hard over the summer. He’s come back lean and fit.
What does an assist consist of? A square pass to Bruno and he puts it in the top corner? Or a great ball for Mason?
Paul has always been a great passer and he’s not got assists from his best passes this season. I don’t pay attention to assists, it’s a social media thing. But Paul has played well for sure.”
the Norwegian said in his UEFA Champions League pre-match conference. .
Pogba’s fine form at the start of the season has given the Manchester United fans some renewed hope. The 28-year-old has not always performed at his best level after returning from Juventus in 2016.
In somewhat more promising news to the Red Devils’ faithful, Pogba is now edging towards signing a renewal with United. His current deal expires in June 2021, and talks between the two parties had stalled in the past. But, as per The Athletic, the France international is significantly closer to signing an extension than he was a few months ago.
