Harry Kane’s goal was canceled out by a stoppage-time equaliazer from Damian Szymanski as Poland held England to a draw in their latest FIFA World Cup European Qualifier. Elsewhere, Italy and Germany registered big wins over their respective opponents.
England’s position at the top of their qualifying group remains relatively secure, despite a surprise draw against Poland. The Three Lions were pegged back by their opponents two minutes into added time, with Szymanski cancelling out Kane’s earlier goal. However, England’s slip-up allowed Albania to gain some valuable ground on the top spot, who thrashed San Marino 5-0.
Spain cruised to a 2-0 win over Kosovo thanks to goals from the in-form Premier League duo of Pablo Fornals and Ferran Torres.
Fornals, who has started the season in red-hot form for West Ham, opened the scoring in the 32nd minute with a fierce shot from inside the box; the attacker spun his marker before firing in the shot at the goalkeeper’s near post. Torres’ excellent solo effort two minutes from full-time ensured maximum points for Spain.
Hansi Flick’s excellent start as the German national team head coach continued, as his side beat Iceland 4-0. Die Mannschaft had scored eight and conceded none in Flick’s first two matches, and they continued their perfect start with yet another comfortable win.
Serge Gnabry scored another early goal to give Germany the lead, and Antonio Rudiger scored before half-time to double their advantage. Leroy Sane and Timo Werner continued their fine form of late for the national team by netting a goal each after the interval.
Italy extended their record-breaking unbeaten run to 37 in their win over Lithuania. The incumbent European champions put five past their hapless opponents, with Moise Kean grabbing a brace. Giacomo Raspadori and Giovanni Di Lorenzo scored a goal each but not before Edgaras Utkus had turned the ball past his goalkeeper. The Azzurri sit atop their group with 14 points, six clear of Switzerland in second.
