Spurs have tied up with Sky as they are all set to host the world’s first net zero carbon football game against Chelsea. The London derby on September 19 against Chelsea is supported by the COP26 and the Premier League and will be known as the #GameZero as the club wants to promote net zero carbon.
In association with Tottenham, Sky and the UK government want to bring a change by creating a larger awareness of climate change and its threat. The Lillywhites are hoping that promoting this message through football will only amplify the changes that are needed to be made by fans worlwide.
“As the Premier League’s greenest club, Tottenham Hotspur is passionate about our planet – we look forward to showcasing our wide range of sustainable measures that are already in place and encouraging our fans to take simple actions that can make a huge difference.”
Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy said.
Sky Sports managing director Jonathan Licht stated:
“We hope that by using the power of sport, we can inspire and support football fans to make simple changes to reduce their carbon footprint and make more climate-friendly choices.”
#GameZero is a match that will inspire fans and all football lovers around the world to reduce the usage of carbon as we build up for a zero-carbon future by 2030.
The Lillywhites joined hands with carbon management company RSK to measure the carbon emission during matchdays. They also created fan surveys, and through data, they have analysed the amount of carbon produced, which they need to curtail down.
