Jasprit Bumrah’s devastating spell during the last innings of the fourth Test has received a lot of praise across the internet. Legendary spinner Shane Warne considers it to be the best spell of the summer.
Bumrah has firmly established himself as the best fast bowler in India and arguably in the world. He picked up two crucial wickets during the final day of the fourth test match at the Oval against England. These wickets came at an important stage of the innings and put the visitors in the driving seat.
The first wicket was of Ollie Pope (2 off 11), who had top-scored for England in the first innings with 81 runs. This was also a milestone wicket for the Mumbai Indians speedster as he had now dismissed 100 batsmen in Test cricket.
The wicket which broke the internet was the beautiful delivery that got the better of Jonny Bairstow. Bairstow had just walked out in the middle and had not yet opened his account. Bumrah caught him off guard with his trademark yorker and sent the wicket-keeper batsman walking.
England were in a decent position at 141/2, but after Bumrah’s double blow, they were in a tight spot at the loss of 5 wickets for 146 runs. This changed the entire complexion of the match, and Bumrah was at the centre of everything.
Former Indian opener-turned-commentator Virender Sehwag also wrote on the micro-blogging site.
“Stump Tod. Bumrah is a beast. Kya spell hai. Terrific,”
he tweeted by including a video of the Bairstow wicket.
The result of the match was almost decided after the mind-blowing Bumrah spell.
India ended up winning the test match by 157 runs, and Virat Kohli’s men received heaps of praises from the cricketing fraternity and fans alike.
