Fans are eager to watch Cristiano Ronaldo play again for Manchester United since his €15 million transfer move from Juventus. However, the fans may have to wait a little longer to see the Portuguese talisman back in his iconic No. 7 shirt.
There were reports suggesting that the 36-year-old old will feature against Newcastle United in their next Premier League fixture. But now, that may get a little delay after the UK Government rejected United’s isolation exemption.
According to MEN, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner will now have to go through five days of isolation before he will be allowed to train at United’s facilities.
Ronaldo was announced as a United player on Tuesday and after that, he featured for Portugal and scored a brace against the Republic of Ireland in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The goals made him the all-time highest goalscorer, and he celebrated his winner by removing his shirt and got booked. The booking will ban him from Portugal’s next match against Azerbaijan (September 7). However, head coach Fernando Santos saw no point in holding him longer with the Portugal squad.
Manchester United requested an elite sportsman exemption from the UK government, but that got rejected. The 36-year-old will have to follow all the government rules just like any other person flying from Portugal. Ronaldo will have to test negative for COVID-19 on the second and fifth day before he can come out to train with his United teammates.
The former Juventus and Real Madrid forward was eager to move out of Turin this summer. There were reports suggesting his move to Manchester City.
UFC legend Khabib Nurmagomedov, who is a friend of Ronaldo, claimed that he always knew that the Portugal international was heading to return to Old Trafford after 12 years.
“A month ago, he told me that he was moving to Manchester United,”
“I expected this deal to take place. I think that Manchester United is more suitable for him than Juventus. For me, the transition was not a surprise,”
Nurmagomedov told reporters at the New Knowledge Marathon in Moscow, per the Daily Mail.
On Thursday it has been announced that Ronaldo will wear the iconic number 7 jersey after Edinson Cavani decided to leave the number for the Portuguese talisman. The Uruguayan will be seen wearing the number 21 shirt for this season at Old Trafford.
