Donny Van de Beek’s agent Guido Albers is furious with Manchester United’s management as they did not facilitate a move for the midfielder. The Dutchman had raised interest from Serie A, Bundesliga and Premier League clubs.
The 24-year-old has had a tough stay at Old Trafford since his 39 million euros move from Ajax last September.
Van de Beek has failed to cement a place in the starting eleven at United and is yet to earn the trust of United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Currently, Scott McTominay, Paul Pogba, Fred, Bruno Fernandes are all ahead of the pecking order than Van de Beek.
“There was a lot of interest from Italy, Germany, England, so that looked good. But you need the cooperation of the club, and it looked like they would, but ultimately they didn’t.
“Disappointed, but also assuring for him, so that he will get his chance, and will get his minutes, but this will become clear in due time.
“He’s been promised that before, but we came to a clear agreement about this with the club, so we have all faith that it will happen now.”
Albers told Voetbal International.
A lot of rumours suggest that the 24-year-old is not happy with his situation. However, Albers does not agree with the rumours but he certainly feels that his client wants to play more matches.
“I won’t say. But everybody who knows Donny knows he loves the game and he wants to be on the pitch every week. So from this answer, you can probably tell what he wanted most,”
he added.
Van de Beek was considered one of the brightest talents in Europe during his Ajax stint. He had a breakthrough season in 2018-19 when he guided the Dutch outfit to the Champions League semifinals.
He won the domestic double of Eredivisie and the Dutch Cup in that particular season. He netted nine goals and 10 assists in the league while scoring three goals in the Champions League.
Before joining Manchester United, Van de Beek scored eight goals along with six assists in the Eredivisie. Hence there were a lot of expectations from the Dutch midfielder. But he has only shown glimpses of his talent after donning the United shirt.
He featured in 36 appearances for the Red Devils last season, but only 15 of them came as a starter. He made only four starts in the Premier League last season as the Red Devils finished second in the league standings.
The Dutchman was once a target for clubs like Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester City. But the tables have now turned as he is struggling to make his mark at United. With age still on his side, Van de Beek can still resurrect his career at the ‘theatre of dreams’.
Manchester United were in search of a midfielder in this transfer window, but they could only manage to sign the likes of Raphael Varane from Real Madrid, Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund and Cristiano Ronaldo from Juventus.
Hence Solskjaer is still open for consideration, and Van de Beek will look to up the ante and earn that spot. The Dutchmanm who predominantly likes to play as an attacking midfielder, his versatility also allows him to play as a holding midfielder or even as a tempo controller.
