Despite a 1-0 win over Wolverhampton in Premier League, the Red Devils were not at their best as there were several loopholes in midfield. Hence, the victory was all but significant as it keeps them in great stead after a 1-1 draw against Southampton in the last match.
Defender Raphael Varane made his debut for his new club and was very confident at the heart of the defence. His performance will give the other players a lot of confidence to give their best. Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was very impressed with the former Real Madrid centre-back.
After an exhausting 1-0 win, Solskjaer was very impressed with Varane’s performance on the night as he said at the press conference. He told the reporters:
“This was ‘welcome to the Premier League’ – tempo, the hustle-bustle, tackle, have to defend counter-attacks.
Top, top performance. He’s good in the air, he’s so composed on the ball, and he’s so experienced, and nothing phases him. He was good in the dressing room before the game, half-time and so I’m delighted with his performance. I thought he showed his class.”
Apart from Solskjaer, United goalkeeper David De Gea also credited the Frenchman:
“He was very good, we kept a clean sheet, so it’s always very good to start with a clean sheet.
He’s a great lad, I think he’s good for the group. Very experienced centre back. Many, many games, and I think he showed today he’s calm with the ball, he’s good in the air, he’s very quick, so a great defender – a great signing for us.”
Along with Varane, Mason Greenwod was also amazing as in the 80th minute, the 19-year-old fired the winner.
The youngster is getting better with every match and his finishing skills at this age is simply sensational. He is definitely the one to lead the lines for the club in the coming years. Greenwood is a very mature striker and can be very deadly if he gets the ball in the penalty box.
However, the English striker has a lot of competition to start at Old Trafford. Apart from Edinson Cavani, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial, two new arrivals in Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo will also push the youngster and test his resolve.
According to Sky Sports, the former Real Madrid and Juventus star has had his medical and will complete his final paperwork very soon. He is all set to feature for the club on September 11 in their next Premier League clash against Newcastle United.
Also, another report from Fabrizio Romano claims that Diogo Dalot will stay at United after several speculations of him leaving the club. Young winger Amad Diallo will also stay after he suffered an injury in training which broke down his loan move to Feyenoord. However, Daniel James may move out of Old Trafford as he is speaking with Leeds United over a permanent deal.
