The Frenchman is remanded in custody after he appeared at the Cheshire court. Manchester City centre-back is accused of three counts of rape and one count of sexual assault.
The police have related these attacks on three women. One of them reportedly was below 18 years. The three rape attacks took place in October last year, while the sexual assault happened in January 2021.
According to recent reports, the police have arrested another man involved in the scandal. The 40-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of rape but was later out on bail.
Cheshire constabulary told the Guardian:
“We can confirm that we have arrested a second man, age 40, in connection to an ongoing investigation into sexual offences at an address in Cheshire.
“The man was arrested earlier this week on suspicion of rape and has been conditionally bailed pending further inquiries.”
However, Mendy is remanded in custody at HMP Altcourse in Liverpool until his next hearing at the Chester crown court on 10 September. The France international was suspended immediately by Manchester City after the news came out, and he got arrested from his house in Cheshire.
Mendy joined Manchester City in 2017 from AS Monaco for 52 million pounds. Before coming to the Premier League, he was an integral part of Leonardo Jardim’s side, which won the French Ligue 1 title in the 2016-17 season.
Ever since moving to the Premier League, mendy has shown glimpses of his talent but never managed to cement his place at the Etihad Stadium. Persistent injuries, disciplinary problems and inconsistent form meant that Pep Guardiola preferred Oleksandr Zinchenko over the Frenchman.
The former Monaco man who started his career from Le Havre plied his trade in Marseille before jumping ship to Monaco.
The 27-year-old has also mustered 10 appearances for the France national team and was a member of the squad when Les Blues won the 2018 World Cup.
In July, news of an Everton player being arrested by the police came up. The ‘unnamed 31-year-old’ was arrested on the grounds of a child sex offence. Some reports suggest that it was Gylfi Sigurdsson. However, no name was ever revealed.
Earlier, former Man City star Adam Johnson was sentenced to six years for engaging in sexual activity with a besotted 15-year-old.
