Ronaldo’s future at Juventus is very uncertain as rumours linger over a move to Paris Saint-Germain. This news comes after Real Madrid have made an official bid of €160 million for the PSG star Kylian Mbappe, who was on their radar for years.
Despite several efforts, the Frenchman has not signed a new deal. With his current contract expiring in 2022, Ligue 1 runners-up will have the last chance to cash in on the striker or will have to let him leave next summer.
Several reports suggest that the Parisians are planning to lure Ronaldo as a replacement for Mbappe. Recently Khalifa Bin Hamad Al-Thani, part of the family that owns PSG, has shared a picture of Ronaldo posing in the club’s shirt that has led to a lot of controversies in the current transfer market. Earlier, he has confirmed the signing of Lionel Messi on a free transfer from Barcelona.
Italian businessman and a scion of Agnelli family, Lapo Elkann, hit out at Al-Thani for the ‘disrespectful’ use of Ronaldo in a PSG shirt while he is still a Juventus player.
“CR7 is a player of Juventus.”
“It is disrespectful to continue putting other jerseys on him as if he were a figurine. If he changes team, wherever he goes, he will have respect as both a man and an athlete. You see, as a Gentleman said, football is a passion for us. For generations.”
wrote Elkann on Twitter in response.
Ronaldo’s contract will expire next summer, and there are reports that the five-time Ballon d’Or winner will leave this transfer window. Talks of the 36-year-old leaving Turin have escalated after Massimiliano Allegri has started him from the bench in the Serie A opener against Udinese.
The match ended in a 2-2 draw but only after a dramatic finish. Ronaldo got subbed on in the 59th minute to score a last-minute winner but was ruled out by a VAR due to a marginal offside call.
According to L’Equipe, the Portuguese is pushing for a move to join Manchester City, arch-rivals of his former club United. There were also rumours of Ronaldo joining Real Madrid, but recently, the forward has strongly refuted all the claims surrounding a return to Santiago Bernabeu.
The Portuguese talisman also got hit on the arm after a tough challenge from Alex Sandro in training. The blow saw him leave the training ground early as he was helped out of the field by members of the Juventus medical team.
His situation will be evaluated by the medical team and then a decision will be made on his availability against Empoli in Serie A (August 28).
