England batsman, who will return to the squad after three years, admitted that India are very well led with Virat Kohli at helm. The left-hander mentioned that Virat’s energy is infectious and he drags a lot of people with him.
It was against India that Dawid Malan last donned the England jersey in the longest format. The 33-year-old is likely to slot in at No. 3 as his side will look to put an end to their top-order woes.
Malan has played 15 Test matches and has amassed 724 runs at an average of 27.84. He has recorded one hundred and six half-centuries.
However, he hasn’t batted a lot at 3. He has batted No. 4 and 5 in Test cricket and even in domestic cricket, he hasn’t batted a lot at 3. The 33-year-old acknowledged that, but he did say that he will continue playing the same way as he does at other positions.
“It is actually not something that I have done a lot in my career in red-ball cricket, I might have done it 25 or 30 times. I try to play the same way, however, I play,”
he was quoted saying in the pre-match press conference.
Moreover, Malan was all praise for the Indian team and their skipper, in particular. He admitted that Kohli’s energy is infectious. He feels that India have added a lot of depth in their bowling, and the bowlers can win them Test matches in all conditions.
“I think they (India) are very well led; I think Virat (Kohli), the way he goes about his business, he is very infectious and you know he drags a lot of people with him.
They have also got a lot of depth not only in their batting but in their bowling as well, they have got bowlers that can win Test cricket in all conditions.
They just have a lot of depth and they are fantastic competitors,“
Malan added.
The third Test starts on August 25 at Headingley, Leeds. India are 1-0 up in this five-match Test series and are on the hunt for their first Test series win in England in 14 years.
England are yet to win a Test match in this home season. They lost one game each against New Zealand and India and drew one game each against the same two sides.
