Tottenham are closing in on the signing of Ligue 1 side Metz’s midfielder Pape Matar Sarr, The Athletic reports. Spurs, however, are yet to reach an agreement with the club over the transfer. Meanwhile, Chelsea are contemplating a move late in the window for Saul Niguez of Atletico Madrid.
The 18-year-old midfielder broke into the Metz first team during the 2020/21 season and subsequently made 24 appearances for the club while scoring three goals. Sarr is of interest to several European sides, as such, Metz are negotiating with several other clubs on the side.
Metz are reported to be considering two possibilities with regards to Sarr’s switch. The French side is willing to let the teenager leave this summer for a higher fee but would be open to accepting a lower one should he be allowed to remain on loan for the season. The Athletic reports that Metz prefer that the midfielder remain in France for another season and are ready to cover his full wage.
Spurs turned their attention towards the Senegalese after a failed move for Cagliari’s Nahitan Nandez. Furthermore, the club needs a midfielder to replace Tanguy Ndombele who is expected to leave this summer.
After completing the signing of Romelu Lukau, Chelsea are now also in the hunt for a midfielder. Manager Thomas Tuchel has alternated with two of N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic, and Jorginho in a double pivot, while Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Ethan Ampadu are also in the squad.
Atletico Madrid’s Saul Niguez is a possibility for that position, and the club will decide in the coming days whether to buy a new midfielder, reports Fabrizio Romano.
