BCB is leaving no stone unturned to organise the five-match T20I series against Australia without any Covid-19 incidents. The series, starting from August 3, will have a strict bio-secure bubble.
After the Bangladesh government announced a countrywide lockdown till August 5 due to a surge in COVID-19 cases in the country, the Bangladesh Cricket Board has laid out some strict bio-bubble rules as they gear up to host Australia for a five match T20I series starting next week.
Back in April 2020, Cricket Australia had decided to postpone the Bangladesh tour because of the pandemic. This time around, as things stand, all the safety requirements and precautions are in place to ensure a smooth conduct of the game.
CA had made demands of not allowing other people into the premises of where the players will stay in the team hotel and a hassle-free immigration process at the airport. They also requested the BCB to arrange all the matches at the same venue. All their demands were satisfactorily met by the BCB.
According to a report on Cricbuzz, around 140 people associated with the game have moved into quarantine as of July 21 and no one else is allowed to join the group after the said date. As a result, BCB’s chief curator Gamini de Silva, who arrived in Dhaka on July 28, will have no other way but to hand out instructions to the ground staff in a virtual manner.
The uncompromising bio-bubble security measures taken by the BCB will also see the BCB directors not being allowed to enter the stadium through their usual passage of entrance. As per the request of the CA, the provision is made to not allow anyone else to use the same passages and the lifts that will be used by the visiting team.
I think whatever they (Cricket Australia) are doing, the reason behind it is to ensure their players’ safety and security and it is not like that they are doing it only with us.
You know that when a supporting staff of West Indies reported positive for COVID-19, they decided to halt the whole series and later they reviewed necessary arrangements and played. T
his is how they are doing it and it will be the same here as well since we will be following the protocols and every decision will be taken according to it.
BCB chief executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury said in a statement.
The Australian squad is expected to arrive in Dhaka from the Caribbean on July 29 and the Bangladeshi contingent is also set to fly in from Zimbabwe on the same afternoon. Both the squads will undergo a three-day quarantine upon arrival.
All 5 T20I matches in the series will be played at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka.
